Ongoing ceasefire talks between the Palestinian armed group Hamas and occupying Israel have collapsed. The discussion started last Sunday in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. However, even though the meeting lasted for two days; No agreement could be reached.
Senior Hamas leader Basim Nasim said on Tuesday (March 5) that they had presented their proposals to mediator countries while negotiations were ongoing and were awaiting Israel’s response.
“Netanyahu does not want to reach an agreement,” he said. And now the ball is in the Americans’ court to pressure Israel to agree to the deal.”
Israel has not agreed to make any public comment on this discussion of Cairo.
However, Israel did not send a representative to Cairo. They demanded a list of the living and dead hostages still in Gaza. Then they will join the discussion. First, a list of at least 40 sick, elderly and women will be released in the first phase of the ceasefire.
Hamas said it is not possible for them to provide the list now. Because many hostages have been killed due to continuous Israeli bombing. As a result, the list of those who are alive and those who are dead must be prepared and the war must be stopped first. Then they can list the hostages.
Throwing a counter demand to Israel, Hamas said that a cease-fire agreement must be reached before the release of the hostages. That would be a permanent ceasefire.
In addition, Hamas demanded that after the cease-fire, massive aid should be allowed to reach Gaza and the displaced people should be allowed to return home.
Western media reports that the deal is not happening now because of Hamas’ demand for a permanent ceasefire.
