An Indian passenger plane bound for Moscow crashed in Afghanistan. The plane crashed in Wakhan area of Badakhshan on Sunday (January 21) morning. Zabiullah Amiri, head of the Taliban’s information and culture department in Badakhshan province, confirmed the crash.
The Taliban claimed that the plane was Indian. However, India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has said that the plane involved in the accident may be a Moroccan-registered aircraft. However, detailed information about the aircraft is not yet available.
Local authorities said the passenger plane crashed in Topkhaneh mountain. The mountain ranges across Karan, Manjan and Jibak districts. Zabiullah Amiri, head of the Taliban’s information and culture department, said that a team has been sent to the area to investigate the crash. However, so far no information has been given from official sources about the cause of the accident or any casualty.
Meanwhile, according to Indian , all Moscow-bound flights of Indian and international airlines reached their destination safely in the past day. In these circumstances, it is believed that the plane involved in the accident may have been a chartered flight. Already for the past few days, the fog and bad weather across northern India have caused problems for aircraft takeoffs and landings. However, it is not yet clear whether the accident was caused by bad weather in Afghanistan or a mechanical fault in the plane. It has been confirmed that there were passengers in the plane, but it is not yet known who was there.
