After four days of detention and interrogation, France finally sent the plane that landed with 303 passengers to India. After the four-judge verdict, the plane left for Mumbai on Sunday. It was seized by the French government on charges of human trafficking after landing last Thursday.
All 303 passengers on the plane are Indians. Among them are 11 children who are unaccompanied.
The plane landed at Vatry Airport in France mid-way from Dubai to Nicaragua to refuel. Later, based on secret information, the plane and all the passengers on board were detained on suspicion of human trafficking. After the detention, French consuls interrogated the passengers for two days. Then on Sunday, a court ruling allowed the Airbus A340 to leave France.
The plane belongs to the Romanian company Legend Airlines. The company’s lawyer, Liliana Bakayoko, said there were between 200 and 250 passengers on the plane when it took off. The rest are not in police custody. They are likely to move elsewhere.
